Morgans

More a modern brasserie than a pub, Morgans opened in the ground floor of the former Barclays Bank building about eleven weeks ago – in the summer of 2006. Aiming for the middle ground, between the likes of Tanners restaurant and the cross-country, chain-style outlet like Old Orleans, Morgans is owned and run by chef Dave Morgan (who many will know locally from the fourteen years he’d previously spent at Chambers a little further down Notte Street). Priding himself on fresh food served up in ‘Plymouth’ portions, our Mr Morgan is aiming to bring this fifty-year-old premises fully into the City Centre psyche with prompt pre-theatre deals for people anxious not to miss curtain up. With Bar Ha! Ha! occupying the other half of the Bank’s ground floor this is at least the fifteenth conversion to licensed premises of a pre or post-war property in and around Royal Parade in the last ten years.
