Crown Inn (Pembroke Street)

There have been at least five Crowns in the Three Towns, as well as a Three Crowns and a couple of Crown & Anchors and the Crown & Column, which is still open today in Ker Street (one of the Crown & Anchors, on the Barbican, is also still open, having only recently reverted to its original name).

This particular Crown was a short-lived affair in one of the area’s most pub friendly street, indeed it vies with Union Street with regard to the claim for having the most pubs ever over time, many of them, curiously enough with regally connected names, including the Royal Exchange, the Royal Oak, Royal Sovereign, Royal Marine, Rose and Crown and Kings Arms. In all there have been over two dozen pubs in Pembroke Street over the years, not that you would readily think that today.
