Bella Italia

Filling the final blank space in the new Travel Inn building on the border of Derry’s Cross is the café, bar and restaurant – Bella Italia. The sixty-fourth Bella Italia to be opened in the UK (and the most westerly to date – there are two in Bristol and two in Cheltenham), the chain is one of the brands owned by Tragus Holdings, on of Britain’s largest independent restaurant companies whose portfolio of brands includes Café Rouge, Mamma Amalfi, Abbaye and the Leadenhall Wine Bar. In total they run more than 150 sites and reckon to serve over 10 million meals a year. As well as opening their new Plymouth outlet this summer they have also opened a facility at Heathrow Terminal One and the Birmingham Bullring.

The arrival of Bella Italia now means there are nine bar/restaurants in what was effectively the old eastern end of Union Street seven of them appearing in the last few years (La Tasca, Varsity, Bongogos, Walkabout, Union Rooms, Kularoos and Bella Italia).
