Description

Plymouth Hoe is one of the finest public open spaces to grace any English city. Famous for its lighthouse and Drake’s celebrated pre-Armada game of bowls, it has been enjoyed as public parkland for over 150 years and has been captured by photographers and filmmakers throughout that time.

This DVD takes some of the classic imagery associated with the area and chronicles the stories of the best known buildings, landmarks – including the Pier, the Bandstand and the Dome – and events that have come and gone, or taken up residence here over the years.

Filmed and edited by Alan Tibbitts, Then&Now – Plymouth Hoe was written and presented by Chris Robinson. Chris’s popular series of Then&Now books on the city have already explored Plymouth’s changing visual history through still images, but moving footage brings a whole new dimension to the Then&Now format.
