Walsingham Court
In the wake of the “Drake 400” celebrations in 1988 a number of streets at Paragon Heights, Chaddlewood were named after celebrated Elizabethan characters or families. Thus we have Raleigh Court, Grenville Court, Gilbert Court and Walsingham Court.
Sir Francis Walsingham (1530?-1590) was for most of the last seventeen years of his life one of Elizabeth's principal secretaries of state. A very loyal servant of the Queen, he contrived a very subtle and effective system of espionage, both at home and abroad. As a consequence of this he was able to uncover the Babington plot thereby implicating Mary, Queen of Scots, in treason and he was able to get hold of advance details of the Spanish Armada in 1587.
