Lippell Drive
One of three names in the Plymstock area that owes its origin to the local estate agent Billy Lippell who developed these particular streets in the late 1950s/early 1960s.
Lippell Drive bore the family name, Simon the name of his son and Princess Avenue and Princess Crescent the nickname he gave his daughter.
It would seem likely that the name Lippell itself, like Lippett, comes originally from another nickname, this time the Old English "lippa" meaning lip. The earliest recorded version of this particular surname would appear to be that of Elfsinus Lippe in 958.
