Galileo Road
Even industrial estates have to have names and therefore it is doubtless appropriate that the comparatively new industrial estate at Plympton, off Glen Road, should have a part of it named after one of the fathers of modern science and therefore industry, Galieo Galilei.
Galileo was the one who really established the now standard scientific method of testing theories by careful and extensive experimentation. He was also the first man to truly appreciate that mathematics and physics were all really part of the same field of knowledge.
There appears to be no obvious link with Plymouth, just as there doesn't appear to be any local links with the neighbouring Lister Close and Huxley Close although once again both men concerned were pioneers in their respective scientific fields.
