Frogmore Avenue/Court
While Frogmore Avenue and Frogmore Court are among the more modern developments in Eggbuckland, the name Frogmore itself is one of the more ancient names in the area. Up until the middle of the twentieth century the medieval settlement of Eggbuckland was still quite recognisable, and a little of clutter of buildings around Frogmore Farm and Frogmore House sat in relative isolation just above what is now Eggbuckland Road and the site of the present Frogmore Court.
The name itself dates back at least four hundred years and appeared as Frogmere in 1572. The implication quite clearly is that somewhere within the bounds of the farm there was a notable pool (mere) that was well-known for having an abundance of small, tailless amphibians - frogs.
