Ford
In 1855 the area known as Ford, one of the few pieces of freehold land left in the borough, was put on the market, it was readily bought up and developed by the Devon and Cornwall Freehold Land Society.
Within a few years a “new road to Ford” had been built along the edge of Keyham Lake which then stretched up to the top of what is now St. Levan Road just below Milehouse. Long since in-filled the oldest crossing of the lake was at the ford at the bottom of what became known as Ford Hill. This route had been a comparatively busy one since the Tudor development of the road from the mill bridge over Stonehouse Creek.
