The war is over, but there are still years of austerity and rationing ahead, although many businesses open stop-gap units in small clusters of Nissen huts and in scattered Blitz survivors.

Apart from the radio and the piano, in the home, or the local pub, most entertainment is a walk or a bus ride away and bomb sites and side streets are regularly deployed as playground areas. As the Fifites dawn so work begins on the City Centre and the new Plymouth starts to take shape.
